Sampling, Abatement, & Remediation Process

FAQs

Why are you at my house?

Chances are you, as a homeowner are going through some sort of insurance claim situation. Bruce Environmental show up to conduct asbestos sampling, by assessing the specifics of your claim. Or, the sampling request came from your Mitigation, Rebuild, or General contractor.

Why is my house getting sampled?

Invasive asbestos sampling is required for any commercial or residential entity undergoing a renovation, demolition, removal, etc. This step is crucial in understanding the work environment. Bruce Environmental`s Goal is to ensure a safe environment is provided for all parties involved with the renovation, demolition, removal process.

What gets sampled?

Any materials that will be damaged, torn apart, broken, etc. during the renovation, demolition process need to be analyzed for asbestos presence.

What does sampling cost?

Sampling costs vary mainly on the number of samples collected. The number of samples needing to be collected varies on the following factors:

  1. Homogeneity/likeness of materials

  2. Extent of Damage/Renovation Plans

  3. Square Footage

What happens if my samples are negative/positive ?

Should your results come back negative for asbestos presence. The other contractors needing to work at your property can continue without any delay or need for an abatement process.

Should your results come back positive, you will need to have an abatement process performed before any other work can continue at your property.

How do I know if my results are negative or positive?

The project manager / field representative from Bruce Environmental, whom performed the inspection, took samples, met you onsite. Will contact you directly with the sample results.

Please understand that the samples taken by our representative are hand delivered to an accredited 3rd Party laboratory for analysis. It is a CONFLICT of INTEREST for the abatement contractor to analyze their own samples.

What is an abatement?

An abatement is the term used to describe the process of removing the tested and known Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) from your property.

When will the abatement start?

If you are experiencing an abatement due to an insurance claim. Bruce Environmental can not/will not schedule until an adjuster reviews and approves the estimate we submitted.

The approval is key to ensuring all payments are handled smoothly. Should we bypass the approval due to the rushing of a property owner or mitigation/restoration contractor. The property owner ends up being responsible for any missing payments.

What do you mean by mitigation/restoration contractor?

Typically, when a property undergoes a claim (tree damage, wind damage, flood damage, fire, etc.) the initial/first company that visits your house is your mitigation team.

Bruce Environmental works with a large number of mitigation companies. These MIT teams are the way we are informed sampling services are needed at your home.

A restoration company is the final contractor you will work with. This team is responsible for getting your house back into a livable condition. Restoration companies are who you will meet with after the abatement is done.
